Adoption Awareness & Promotional Work

VARADAAN has been actively involved in adoption promotion work all over Vidarbha. It has also extended its promotional work in adjoining Madhya Pradesh since 1995.

Promotional programmes are undertaken in rural and urban areas alike, covering a cross section of the population. Programmes are often held for professionals like gynecologists, pediatricians, lawyers, and social workers, disseminating information about technical aspects of scientific adoption.

As part of promotional work, VARADAAN so far has arranged eight major Workshops for the functionaries working in the field of adoption with a view to stream-line socio-legal procedures of adoption. Varadaan organized orientation meetings (Need base aspect) & family meet for adoptive parents on regular basis.

Student Support Services

In 1997, the Government of Maharashtra identified VARADAAN as an agency to run the ‘Bal-Sangopan Yojana’, wherein school-going children are provided supportive services so as to prevent school drop-outs.

This Yojana also promotes deinstitutionalization of marginalized children. Twenty five children, mainly girls, are currently supported under this scheme. VARADAAN also has initiated the ‘Eklavya Shikshan Yojana’ to support educational needs of less-privileged children. Twenty five children are sponsored under this.

Creche at Rahatenagar Toli

As a first step it was decided to start a Crèche for the children in the age group (3-6 yrs) in the community. Thereafter a social worker paid regular visits, meeting parents & counseling them to send their children to the crèche.

Varadaan, by continuous dialog and with the support of crèche activity succeeded in gaining their confidence. Crèche started on 1st July 2008. This was with the help of leaders in the community.

School House For Children in Difficult Circumstances (SHC)

The organization has undertaken the ‘School House for Children in Difficult Circumstances Project’ in 5 slums ( Toli Rahate Nagar, Kaushalayayan Nagar, Savitribai Fule Nagar, Sevadal Nagar & Shanti Nagar) within the city of Nagpur. These Centers were established by Varadaan in the year 2010.

The broad aim behind this initiative was to assure protection of rights of children and to provide a safe place for children, outside their homes, within the community where they lived. It also aimed at strengthening, expanding, and modifying the existing activities for strengthening the capacities of children as per needs/requirements and to formulate need based strategies to educate such children and to initiate appropriate steps at the community level / school level to prevent students from dropping out of schools.

Social Work Training Facility

VARADAAN serves as a placement agency for fieldwork for post graduate social work students of the colleges affiliated to Nagpur University.

Different batches of social work students make observational visits to VARADAAN to study the professional methods employed in its activities.
